Causes of Hypoglycemia

Actions Needed

Notify School Nurse or Trained Diabetes Personnel. If possible, check blood sugar, per Diabetes Medical Management Plan. When in doubt, always TREAT FOR HYPOGLYCEMIA.

  4. BulletRecheck blood glucose

  6. BulletFollow with a snack of carbohydrates

Mild

  1. BulletStudent may/may not treat self

  2. BulletProvide quick-sugar source

        3-4 glucose tablets

        4 oz. juice

        6 oz. regular soda

        3 tsp. glucose gel

  1. BulletWait 10 to 15 min.

  2. BulletRecheck blood glucose.

  3. BulletRepeat food if symptoms persist

  4. BulletFollow with snack of carbohydrate and protein (e.g., cheese and crackers)
