Individuals with an interest in the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) are encouraged to complete a scholarship application. Specific career field interest includes: Soil Conservationist, Soil Scientist, Rangeland Management Specialist, and Civil/Agricultural Engineer.

2009/10 Scholarship Program

The College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR) and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) are searching for individuals who are interested in a career such as a Soil Conservationist, a Soil Scientist, a Rangeland Management Specialist, or a Civil or Agricultural Engineer!

THE PROGRAM…

The Conservation Scholarship Program for the 2009/10 academic year includes the following:

  • One $1000 scholarship at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR).

  • Summer 2010, NRCS will provide on-the-job summer employment. Potential employment the following two summers with good academic standing and required course work to meet job standards.

Note: CASNR may suspend this scholarship program at any time.

Potential for Future Employment with NRCS…

  • The selected scholarship recipient of the 2009-10 Conservation Scholarship will have the opportunity to gain work experience through the Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) while pursuing her or his education. This generally involves working full-time during the summer and does not include work while school is in session. The student gains experience at a variety of locations in Nebraska, meaning she or he may be located at a different field office each summer.

  • SCEP participants are paid based on completed education $11.74 per hour (2009 rate) with 1 year above high school with course(s) related to the occupation.

  • Upon graduation, a student is eligible for non-competitive conversion to a permanent full-time appointment.

  • NRCS Nebraska will pay a stipend up to $500 a month for rent and electricity during work periods. Students will need to complete a minimum 640 hour work period, which is generally over two summers, to be eligible for non-competitive employment after graduation.

The entire application, review, and award process of the Conservation Scholarship Program will be overseen by the Dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR).
