The school’s PRO/CON Debate Teams should number 3-4 for PRO and 3-4 for CON per classroom.  Please make sure to use the same Debate Team name (ie PRO-STARS) when submitting their Opening, Rebuttal and Closing statements. Each Debate Team, depending on its position, will construct and ship the following:

Step 1. Opening Statement: The Debate Team presents a case justifying its position. This is to be a prepared statement of not more than 250 words. (Needs to be submitted no later than Friday P.M., April 13th). After all are submitted, please vote for best PRO and CON overall.

Step 2. Rebuttal: The affirmative (PRO) position is responsible for responding to the argument of the negative (CON) position while re-establishing the affirmative case, and vice versa (Needs to be submitted no later than Friday P.M., April 20th). This must be done in 500 words or less. After all are submitted, please vote for best PRO and CON overall.

Step 3. Closing Statement: The responsibility of the opposing arguments is to validate the positions once again and to summarize main ideas (Needs to be submitted no later than Friday P.M., April 27th). This must be done in 250 words or less. After all are submitted, please vote for best PRO and CON overall.

Student voting will be supplemented by teacher evaluations. The best overall PRO or CON debate team will earn for their classroom a Pizza Party.

Recommendations: Use a variety of search engines like Google.com and Bing.com to get a fair representation of ideas. In addition, consider a "Fair Balance" approach in writing your PRO or CON positions.
